Spa-Francorchamps is the king of F1 circuits — a 7km monster weaving through the Ardennes forest with the legendary Eau Rouge/Raidillon complex, the flat-out run through Blanchimont, and massive elevation changes. Its microclimates mean rain can hit one part of the track while the rest stays dry, making tire choices a gamble.
The Belgian Grand Prix has been held at Spa since 1950 and is universally regarded as one of the greatest racing circuits ever built. The original 14km circuit used public roads through the countryside. While dramatically shortened in 1979, it retains its breathtaking character. Nearly every great F1 driver has a defining Spa moment.
Michael Schumacher hit David Coulthard in blinding spray while lapping him, then stormed into the McLaren garage to confront him. Damon Hill won for Jordan.
Torrential rain meant only two laps were completed behind the safety car. Half points were awarded in the shortest 'race' in F1 history, sparking rule changes.
Mika Häkkinen pulled off one of the most famous overtakes in history, passing Michael Schumacher around the outside while simultaneously passing a lapped car.
