Set in the Bahrain desert, this circuit features long straights connected by tight, technical braking zones. The abrasive sand-blown surface is tough on tires, and races held under floodlights create a dramatic atmosphere. Wind and sand can drastically change grip levels throughout the weekend.
Bahrain International Circuit became the first F1 venue in the Middle East when it hosted its inaugural race in 2004. The circuit has been a season opener multiple times and hosted a unique outer-layout race during the pandemic in 2020. It was designed to promote overtaking with its heavy-braking corners.
The first night race at Bahrain delivered an epic wheel-to-wheel battle between Mercedes teammates, with Hamilton narrowly prevailing.
Romain Grosjean survived a horrifying 137mph crash that split his car in half and burst into flames, walking away with minor burns.
Max Verstappen dominated the season opener, leading from start to finish as Red Bull showcased their continued dominance.
